SC1 CLimate-Ice sheet Processes in Antarctica (CLIP-Ant)

OBJECTIVES:

  • investigate feedbacks between the Antarctic Ice Sheet and the climate system using a coupled models
  • determine the controls on ice shelf stability (theory, observations and modelling): basal melt parameterization, hydrofracture, early signals of Marine Ice Cliff Instability (MICI)
  • ice-ocean interaction (observations and modelling): understanding the roles of Antarctic coastal current, Antarctic slope front, Antarctic Circumpolar Current, overturning circulation and sea ice processes in delivering heat to the base of the ice shelves.
